Success Overcomes Obstacles

 By Richard Brody

Rarely has anyone ever achieved any form of meaningful success without overcoming certain obstacles. Success comes as an effect of a combination of achievement, persistence, perseverance, commitment and motivation. Lily Tomlinson said, "The road to success is always under construction." We each need to recognize that becoming successful is a step by step journey, and does not simply occur overnight. Some of these obstacles are placed in our way by others, while even more often we place obstacles in our own way. No one has ever heard a successful individual complain about those obstacles, but rather he celebrates the end results. On the other hand, those who fail to achieve often blame those obstacles, or being unlucky, for their limited results.

1. Because many individuals either fear or are jealous of our potential, they do whatever they can to limit our results, by placing whatever obstacles they can in our way. These may come in the form of negative attitudes, back - stabbing, lack of commitment, underperformance, or political manipulation. However, it is predominantly our decision as to the impact that others might have on our performance, because we either can choose to overcome obstacles and be successful, or we can succumb to those issues. Obstacles are always there, whether because of someone's actions or in actions, or because of certain situations or occurrences. The wise individual is a great planner, always creating contingency plans to seamlessly continue his journey when needed.

2. However, the most frequent obstacles to success are self - inflicted. Anything less than a positive, proactive, can do attitude builds negatively upon itself, bringing out our worst, rather than our best efforts. Overcoming obstacles means never viewing them as problems, but rather as challenges that we overcome. When one thinks of a problem, it creates a negative image in our minds eye, something that we attempt to avoid, and creates internal stress. Conversely, when obstacles are viewed as challenges, we proceed accordingly, effectively planning to become more effective and impactful. No one has ever achieved success in any endeavor if he procrastinated and let his fears control his behavior and attitude. Success comes as a result of a positive attitude, and a willingness to persist and persevere when others give up.

This concept is vital both to our everyday existence, as well as how someone might perform in a position of leadership. Only real leaders, whether personally or organizationally, who commit to be the best and do what they need to do, achieve true success. If you want to be a success, you must first visualize and believe in your success.
