Achieving Wellness at Work

By Sienna Nalin

Wellness programs and benefit packages at work are starting to trend and become the new hype. I even heard of a law firm in Santa Monica, California that would set aside a few hours each week for yoga. When your job is behind you in trying to make sure that you are healthy that pushes you more to do so. Employers are not just doing this to better your health, but they know if you are in a better state of mind you will produce better work.

When looking into these packages for work, many employees will question, well what is a wellness plan? A wellness plan embodies taking care of yourself and making sure that you are healthy through a nutritious diet, exercising, reducing stress and more. These packages are great for all and show a return investment for everyone involved.

Many companies make a profit off of these packages because of how well they do. Johnson & Johnson supports these packages and offers their employees a reward to those who are overweight and lose ten percent of their body mass index with a bonus of $150. Not bad right!?

Being mindful is something that we all need to obtain. That is why many organizations are bringing back Buddhist traditions of relieving stress through meditation. We need to be able to separate ourselves from this busy world and realize that we must find enjoyment and peace through all the task we do rather than being stressed.

Effective leaders and employees need to pay attention to what's happening around them. Good decision-making requires focus, clarity and calm. In addition to reducing stress, employers who offer mindfulness training are finding that employees are more focused and productive.

Being mindful embodies enjoying and watching how you breath so that you now to slow down and take time to fully think things out. Some people even calm down just by listening to music in which it helps their thought process. I know that works for me a lot. While writing this article I am listening to music to focus all my thoughts. Good wellness programs will essentially better and employee in all aspects. As mentioned before when an employee sees that their employers cares about their wellbeing, they feel much better.
